Johnsonburg Makes Quick Work Of Golden Tide, 11-0

JOHNSONBURG – The Curwensville Golden Tide baseball team lost for the second time this season to Johnsonburg, 11-0, on the Rams’ home field Wednesday afternoon. The game was called after 4 1/2 innings due to the ten run rule.

The Rams defeated the Tide 5-0 in their first meeting on April 17.

Johnsonburg wasted little time putting the Tide in a deep hole with a six run first inning and Curwensville head coach Denny Johns had nothing but praise for the Rams, “They jumped out quickly to a six nothing lead and we just never recovered. They’re undefeated for a reason. They have a very solid team with good pitching, a solid defense and a strong offense.”

Tide pitchers assisted the Ram offense by issuing seven walks and hitting four batters.

The Curwensville defense also didn’t help matters much either as it had five errors on the afternoon

Curwensville had just three hits in the game, all singles, one each by Kyle Bloom, Kyle Johns and Todd Munchak.

Scoring in every inning allowed the Rams to go home with an early victory which was paced by Quinn Luhr with three hits and C. J. Herbstritt adding two.

Neither team had an extra base hit during the contest.

Curwensville (5-10) will be on the road again on Thursday when it travels to Brookville to play the Raiders at 4:15 pm. Brookville beat the Golden Tide earlier this season, 12-2, at Curwensville.

Johns then added, “We need to back bounce back and play a lot stronger tomorrow (Thursday) against a good Brookville team.”
