HUNTINGDON – Freshman right-hander Hunter Price held the Clearfield Area High School baseball team hitless for six innings to key Huntingdon’s 6-4 Mountain League Allegheny Division victory Wednesday afternoon.
Wyatt Westen broke up the no-hitter with a single after Cole Kephart had drawn a walk with one out in the seventh inning.
The Bisons (3-8) then gave the Bearcats a scare, getting the tying run to the plate.
Pinch-hitter Jon Janocko singled to load the bases for Curtis Collins, who also singled to drive in two runs and chase Price.
Scott Alleman relieved and earned a save via a run-scoring groundout by Kyler Kephart and a strikeout around an error that let in Clearfield’s final run.
Kephart’s 10-game hitting streak was ended by Price, who struck out five and walked five, and Alleman.
Huntingdon got to Ronny Ogden for eight hits and all of their runs, with two unearned, in 5-1/3 innings. The senior right-hander struck out two, walked one and hit two.
Kephart got the final two outs for the Bisons, now 2-4 in the division.
The Bearcats were led by Tanner Cook with a leadoff home run in the first inning and an RBI-single in the sixth and hot-hitting Nate Negri with a double and a single and two runs scored. Negri owns a .550 batting average.
Huntingdon, which had blown a 13-2 lead in an 18-14 loss at Clearfield on April 4, is 3-4 in division and 3-9 overall.
The Bisons will travel to Martinsburg Friday for an ML-Allegheny game against Central.
In the junior varsity game, Josh Kennedy drove in five runs with two homers and a double to fuel a 16-5 win by Clearfield (6-4).
Spencer Herrington had two hits and scored three runs, as did Josh Sorbera.
Nate Brady was the winning pitcher.
