HYDE – The Clearfield Lady Bison softball team earned its second win of year Wednesday afternoon in windy and cold conditions on its home field, 7-1, over visiting Tyrone.
The Lady Bisons are now 2-4 on the year and 2-1 in the Mountain League Allegheny Division, while the Lady Eagles slipped to 1-6.
Sophomore pitcher Rachel Hoffman picked up her second win from the circle with a commanding two-hit, 10-strikeout performance.
Through the first two and one half innings neither team had anyone reach base, but that all changed in the bottom of the third inning when the Lady Bison offense came alive to score three runs.
With one out, Lady Bison Robyn McBride singled to left field followed by a base on balls to Megan Vanderburgh.
Shortstop Andrea Butler drove a one-two pitch to deep left field to pick up two RBI’s, driving home both McBride and Vanderburgh. Butler would score on a two out single by Hoffman, and after three it was 3-0 Clearfield.
Tyrone would score its only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning when Kelsey Emeigh smacked a double that brought home Tessa Corle, who had walked earlier in the frame.
The Lady Bisons added two more tallies in the fourth inning after two outs were recorded by the Lady Eagles.
Vanderburgh reached base on an error, the first of five on the evening for Tyrone.
A single by Butler had Clearfield in business with runners on first and second, which was then followed by Melinda Owens getting on base by way of another Tyrone error. Hoffman would complete the two out rally with a single to left putting the Lady Bisons up 5-1 after four innings.
Clearfield would add one more run in the fifth and another in the sixth to pick up the 7-1 victory.
Hoffman had three hits and three RBI’s for Clearfield while Butler and McBride each added two singles.
Next up for the Lady Bisons will be Philipsburg-Osceola at home on Friday with the first pitch set for 4:15 pm at the Bison Sports Complex.
