Brookville Walks Over Golden Tide 12-2

CURWENSVILLE – Picking up eleven walks and two hit batsmen, along with nine hits, enabled the visiting Brookville Raiders baseball team to defeat the Curwensville Golden Tide Monday afternoon in Curwensville, 12-2, in a game that ended after six innings due to the ten-run mercy rule.

The Raiders picked up five quick runs in the top of the first inning to put pressure on the young Golden Tide nine who dropped to 0-4 on the season.

Curwensville would respond with a run of its own in the bottom half of the first as shortstop Tanner Elensky lead off with a single and second baseman Brett Gardner reached base on an error.

A sacrifice fly by Jesse Zorger with one out would drive home Elensky later in the inning, but the Tide would learn that they would need a bunch more tallies to stay in the game with the Raiders.

The game remained 5-1 in favor of Brookville through three complete innings until the Raiders would add seven more runs over the final three frames.

Curwensville would score its final run in the bottom of the fourth when catcher Kyle Bloom singled and Kyle Johns, the Tide starting pitcher, would double giving Curwensville runners on second and third with only one out.

Elensky would pick up the RBI as he then singled to drive home courtesy runner Jordan Russell.

Tide coach Denny Johns made it simple afterwards, “We really need to start throwing strikes. You just can’t issue 11 walks against a team like Brookville.”

Then Johns added, “I’m happy that we are getting guys on base but we just can’t seem to get the key or timely hits when we need them.”

Elensky, Bloom and Johns each had two hits for Curwensville while Seth Connor, Nathan St. Laurent and Nathan Bonfardine all had two hits for the Raiders.

Tyler Dombrowski went the distance for Brookville to pick up the win.

The Golden Tide will once again play at home on Wednesday when they host the Elkers of Ridgway at 4:15 pm.
