Bisons Rout Philipsburg-Osceola 51-31 on Senior Night

CLEARFIELD —  Wednesday night Robbie Myers, Curtis Frye, Beau Swales, Andrew McCracken, John Gaylor, Ryan Hertlein, and Craig Bell of the Clearfield Area High School boy’s basketball team  suited up in their home “whites” for the last time and came away with a monster 51-31 victory over the Philipsburg-Osceola Mounties in the last home game of their career.

Myers definitely finished his final home game in grand fashion by scoring 20 points and perhaps playing his best defensive game of the season by blocking a hand full of shots and disrupting numerous others.

The Bisons jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the game sparked by Christian Lezzer who put up nine of his 11 points for the game in the first quarter. Lezzer’s spark got the “Dark Forrest’s” full attention, as the student section was in full swing the entire night. At the end of the first quarter the Bisons held a 13-4 advantage.

The Bisons came out just as dominant in the second quarter. Myers came out on fire nailing five buckets in the frame to start his scoring for the night as the Bisons remained dominant in the second period limiting the Mounties to single digits yet again to finish the half up 30-9.

In the beginning of the second half the Bisons came out a little sluggish offensively only scoring 10 points in the quarter while surrendering 12, but it was too little too late for the Mounties as Clearfield still maintained their double digit lead. Senior Andrew McCracken provided a big 3- point shot in the quarter for the Bisons. At the end of three the Bisons led 38-21.

In the fourth quarter every one of the Bisons seven seniors saw big minutes, which was a very fitting way to go out on top on the final home game of their careers as they cruised to a 20-point victory and snapped a three game losing streak at this crucial point in the season.

The Bisons (8-11) will be back in action Friday night as they travel to Central Mountain for a must-win game with only three games remaining until the first round of the District 9 playoffs.
