Campus Corner: Krchnak Doublewinner in Clarion Sweep

MEN’S SWIMMING

 

CLARION – Junior Mark Krchnak of Clearfield was a doublewinner for Clarion (4-2) in a Senior Day sweep of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rivals Edinboro 149.5-86.5 and Gannon 145-93 Saturday afternoon. 

Krchnak touched the Waldo S. Tippin Natatorium wall in the 100-yard breaststroke in a season-best 1:00.15 for his fifth individual-event victory. 

He swam the breaststroke leg for the Golden Eagle 200 medley relay team that won in 1:39.92. 

Krchnak also placed fourth against both opponents in the 200 individual medley with a season-best 2:06.37.

MEN’S GYMNASTICS 

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Junior still rings specialist Scott Rosenthal of Clearfield took second place behind teammate Miguel Pineda in one of only two events No. 1-ranked Penn State won in a 340.300-338.450 loss to Big 10 rival and No. 6 Michigan in Cliff Keen Arena Saturday night. 

Rosenthal received a 15.250 score from the judges a week after posting a personal-best and Nittany Lion record 16.300 against Army. 

Pineda won with a 15.300 and Nestor Rodriguez claimed fourth with a 14.650 as the Nittany Lions outpointed the Wolverines 59.650-56.750 on the rings. 

However, the only other event Penn State won was floor exercise.

WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK 

UNIVERSITY PARK – Sophomore Gwenn Porter of Clearfield has run in two distance events for Penn State on the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track. 

She placed 18th with a time of 11:36.07 in the 3,000-meter race at the Penn State Invitational Relays Jan. 7 and 21st with a time of 5:31.61 at the Nittany Lion Challenge Jan. 14.
