HOLLAND, PA — Juniors Nolan Barger and Christian Stone picked up medals on Saturday evening at Council Rock High School South in the 7th Annual Escape the Rock Tournament.
The 31-team field was led by Bethlehem Catholic for the second year in a row. The Clearfield Bisons finished in 28th place with 43 team points.
Both Barger and Stone were dealt their second losses on the season during semifinal action Saturday morning. At 126 pounds Stone was defeated 10-3 by eventual champion Michael Hayes of Colonial Forge, VA. Barger, at 145 pounds, lost in overtime 4-3 to Kody Pace of Fort LeBeouf.
After dropping down to the consolation semifinals, Barger picked up a 10-4 decision to head to the third place medal match where he was defeated 5-0 to finish in fourth place and earn his first Escape the Rock medal.
Stone lost 3-0 in the consy semis, forcing him into the fifth place medal match where he won 7-2 over Line Mountain’s Mason Zimmerman. Stone’s fifth place medal now goes along side of his third place medal at 112 pounds last year.
Barger and Stone now sport identical 16-3 records on the year.
The only other Bison wrestler to make it to Saturday’s action was senior heavyweight Jordan Lancaster. Lancaster was beaten 4-3 in the the third round of consolations to finish the tourney at 2-2.
The Bisons (0-6) will be back in action when they host the Philipsburg-Osceola Mounties on Thursday January 19.
The Annual Bison Duals are slated for January 21 at Clearfield High School.
