BELLEFONTE – Bellefonte coach Mike Maney won’t be popular with Clearfield fans for quite some time, as he avoided top matchups at every chance to ensure a 51-23 win.
Clearfield bumped up Nolan Barger to 152 right off the bat, hoping that he’d face Red Raider standout Leo Wortman. However, Bellefonte passed on that matchup, forfeiting to Barger and sending Wortman out at 160, where he pinned Mike Beck.
At 170 Kody Hepfer picked up his second win of the year with a 10-6 decision, but the Red Raiders then ripped off five falls in a row to effectively put the match out of reach.
At 106 Noah Cline dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to Nate Rosenberger.
After forfeiting 113, the Red Raiders again avoided an entertaining matchup, electing to send Tom Traxler out against Frankie Aveni rather than sending him at 126 against Christian Stone. Traxler pinned Aveni and Stone pinned Zach Musser before Dylan Graham tech-falled Noah Perryman at 132 pounds. Wyatt Stucke lost by fall at 138, but Cody Mayhew ended the night on a winning note for the Bisons with a 10-5 win over Tanner Fedderolf.
The loss drops Clearfield to 0-6 on the season, while Bellefonte improved to 3-2. Clearfield will be in action this weekend at the Escape the Rock tournament before returning to action at home next Thursday against Philipsburg-Osceola.
