CURWENSVILLE — In wrestling, when a team gets on a roll it’s hard to stop them as the Curwensville Golden Tide wrestlers found out Thursday night when they played host to the West Branch Warriors at Patton Hall. West Branch recorded nine falls and a forfeit on the way to a 62-12 victory.
The dual meet started on a positive note for Curwensville at 120 pounds when the Tide’s Tyler Mays scored a 10-2 major decision over Dustin Fisch. Leading 8-2 with time running out, Mays hit a reversal at the buzzer to earn an extra team point for the Tide.
West Branch regained the lead, 5-4, as Parker Bumbarger at 126 racked up 15 points on Brandon Sass in earning a technical fall right at the final buzzer.
After another win by West Branch, senior Jake Keller put the Tide back on top, 10-8, by decking Roy Evans in the second period at 138. The undefeated Tide senior was leading 9-1 when the fall came at 3:59.
West Branch then rattled off four straight falls before Curwensville’s Chad Desmett recorded six points of his own with a third period pin over Robert Pearce at 182.
Another string of four pins and a forfeit win for the Warriors set the final at 62-16.
The Tide will not be back in action until after the new year when they host the Punxsutawney Chucks on January 5.
