Two Officers Shot, One Fatally, in Washington County

EAST WASHINGTON – According to Gant news partner WJACTV.com, authorities are searching for the man they say fatally shot a Washington County, Pa., police officer and wounded another in a shoot-out following a late-night traffic stop.

State police in Washington County say Officer John David Dryer was fatally shot late Sunday night during a traffic stop on Interstate 70 in East Washington. A second officer was wounded.

Tpr. Joseph Christy said police are searching for 58-year-old Eli Franklin Myers in connection with the shooting. Police surrounded his home in Webster, Westmoreland County, early Monday trying to serve a homicide warrant.

Christy said police don’t know if Myers is in the home and they’re asking anyone who knows his whereabouts to contact police. Officials said they were searching for a man driving a green or gray minivan with a broken passenger side window.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the traffic stop.

Exit 19B on Interstate 79 was shut down temporarily Sunday night into Monday morning as officers searched for the shooter.
