CLEARFIELD — The Clearfield Bison wrestling team opened its home schedule on a sour note Thursday night, falling 40 – 26 to the visiting Bald Eagle Area Eagles.
The Eagles got off to a fast start with back-to-back falls at 220 and 285, then grabbed three more team points when Travis Geidroc downed Noah Cline, 7-3, at 113.
Clearfield then reeled off four straight victories to take the lead 20-15.
Jon Sponsler finally gave the home crowd a chance to cheer when he caught Jacob Noll in a banana split, putting the cherry on top with the fall in 3:20 at 120.
Frankie Aveni escaped with a 4-3 decision at 126, earning the last two points of the bout by penalty.
After a forfeit to Christian Stone at 132, Wyatt Stucke unleashed a point barrage on Dion Barnard at 138, winning by technical fall, 22-5. Stucke, wrestling Tazmanian devil style, scored on four different nearfall moves, using two headlocks, a cradle and a pancake for the impressive victory.
Bald Eagle stopped the Bison stampede momentarily when Matt Dillion bested Dylan Graham, 8-5, at 145.
Nolan Barger gave the Bisons their biggest lead of the night, 26-18, when he cradled Tyler Baney for the fall in 1:47.
That would be the last points for the Bisons as Bald Eagle took the last four bouts of the evening, winning three of them by fall to set the final at 40-26.
Clearfield (0-2) will try to crack the win column next Wednesday when they travel to Punxsutawney to take on their District IX foe. Varsity action is set to begin at 7pm.
