HUNTUNGDON — After having only a three-win season last year, the Clearfield Lady Bisons were hoping to start the new year on the right path.
With only losing one senior from that season, and eight letter-winners returning, expectations were great as head coach Joey Castagnolo took his team on the road to face the Lady Bearcats of Huntingdon on Wednesday night.
Despite a great effort by the team, the Lady Bisons dropped the first game of the season by a final of 89-68.
Huntingdon drained 19 shots behind the arc, with five players having at least three a piece. Tara Smith led the Lady Bearcats with 18 points, and both Katie Kurtz and Kathryn Marter both had double-digit scoring on the night.
Clearfield also had three players make it into double-digit scoring as Brianna Peters had a team and game-high 22 points on the night, while Rachael Thompson added another 16 and Dakota Farmery had 10 on the night.
The team will not see action again until Monday night. Clearfield will host it’s only home game during the month of December as they welcome in Punxsutawney.
Tip off for the Lady Bisons and Lady Chucks at the Arthur J. Weiss Gymnasium will begin at 6 p.m. with the junior varsity game. The varsity contest will tip off approximately an hour and a half later.
