The Last Word

Dave: “What an amazing comeback by the Bisons – I was there, and when they were down 20-7 I thought they were all but finished – great resiliency and mental toughness shown by the entire squad. I expect an easier time of it this week against a team that entered the playoffs 3-7. You cannot write off Penn State or Pitt this week – both teams have proven to be fairly unpredictable – but in the end, both are on the road, playing teams I consider to be more talented – so we’ll go with the favorites. Two great games on Thanksgiving – I like the Lions’ chances, Rodgers cannot be near-perfect every week, and the Packer ‘D’ is susceptible to big plays, and while I’m rooting like crazy for the 49ers, I expect the Ravens to hold serve at home in a hard-hitting game.”

Jay: “Well, picking against the Bisons last week turned out to be a bad idea – so I won’t do that again this week (not to a 7-loss team). I’ve thought Wisconsin was the team to beat in the Big 10 all year, so I have to pick them with the division title on the line. Those other college games are just shots in the dark, except LSU – don’t see them losing until the national championship game. Lions will be fired up, but the Packers won’t have a letdown yet. The Thanksgiving night game with the Harbaugh brothers could be a good one!”

Rusty: “Congratulations to the Bisons for dominating the second half of last week’s game. I don’t think they will face the quality of team this week and should continue to move on.  Penn State will come up short this week – they lost their shot at the Big 10 Championship at home two weeks ago with Nebraska.  LSU’s defense helps them survive against Arkansas.  Steelers, Patriots and Packers should be able to keep themselves at the top of their divisions.  It may be wishful thinking, but the 49er’s may be able to help Pittsburgh by bumping the Ravens.”

Dustin: “ Make or break game by far for Penn State.  I’m still trying to get over seeing the ‘wildcat’ offense from the Nittany Lions.  The last time we saw something remotely close to that was when Zach Mills and Michael Robinson were on the squad.  But it was effective, and now Wisconsin has to prepare for a different Penn State team.  This team the last couple weeks has overcome some extreme adversity, which was not of their doing, and have in essence put the school and the community on their backs and lifted everyone up in such traumatic times.  One more victory and a trip to Indianapolis will be the perfect culmination of a season that began with promise, got ridiculed by scandal, but came back with triumph.”

Chris: “I’m going to pick to some upsets this week to try scratch my way back into things. I think Clearfield’s luck will finally run out against Shamokin. Wisconsin will whack the Nittany Lions in Madison. It’s a tough place to play. My upset special comes on Thanksgiving Day, when the Packers’ undefeated season goes up in smoke at Ford Field.”
