The Last Word

Jay: “As mentioned last week, I’ll now pick Clearfield to ‘run the table’. Local HS teams doing well, so I’m picking them all again. Hey Nebraska, ‘Welcome to the Big 10’, hard to believe I’m actually going to root for the Badgers! Big game for the Texans, wouldn’t be surprised if the Steelers win though. Eagles and Jets bounce back.”

Dave: “Philipsburg has surprised me of late with their play, as has West Branch, but this week is a test for both squads – these are games good teams have to win. Until Pitt’s vaunted ‘speed’ offense actually shows up, I’m not picking them against good teams, and until the Steelers show me their offensive line can block, I’m not picking them against good teams either. I wanted to take the Jets, but their ghastly performance in Oakland gave me pause.”

Dustin: “Clearfield’s 3-week road trip begins this week and it will determine if they are as tough as they have been.  We know road trips are tough on any team, especially when they are extended ones.  Should be a good game.  The game I’m intrigued by the most is Nebraska-Wisconsin, as it’s the first game for the Cornhuskers in Big-Ten competition.  This will determine how good they are and how well they can compete in this conference.”

Chris: “I am picking against the Pittsburgh teams this week. Pitt failed to impress me in last week’s close loss to the Irish. Until the Panthers prove that they can win a big game, I’ll be picking against them. As far as the Steelers are concerned, they were lucky to escape Indianapolis with a win. Matt Schaub will rack up the yards against a defense that looks like a shell of its former self.”

Rusty: “ I’m feeling a clean sweep for the local teams this week even if three of them are on the road.  Penn State may win this week, but it won’t be a run-away, and it may be the only Big 10 win on the year.  The Steelers will have to play a perfect game to win in Texas – they’ve convinced me that it can’t happen.  Wow, It’s a good thing we have the high school games here, because these picks really feel negative. Did I pick the Ravens? Ugh!”
