Lady Tide Sweeps Lady Bison Volleyball Team

CLEARFIELD — The Lady Tide of Curwensville made the short trip to Arthur J. Weiss Gymnasium in Clearfield on Monday night and were able to sweep the Lady Bisons in a competitive match 25-21, 25-20, and 25-16.

Curwensville upped their record to 3-1 on the year, while Clearfield dropped to 1-4.

Clearfield came out strong in the first two games and held a lead in both, but Curwensville was able to overcome their slow start; which was not unexpected by Lady Tide Head Coach Sandy Bailor, “First two games we came out slow and missed a few serves and we were down in both the games. I was concerned about how we might play after the big win against Punxsy (last week) and the fact that we were playing on a Monday evening. Monday’s seem to be a sluggish day for us, but I give credit to the girls, when they were down they batttled back.”

Coach Bailor had some accolades to hand out to her own players and to Clearfield, “Clearfield has some height in Dakota (Farmery) and Krystal (Wriglesworth) so we had to find away to get around the blocks and I thought my two middles Savannah (Strickland) and Katrina (Seaburn) and my outsides Rikki (Wells) and Tierra (Shope) saw the openings and used them. Madison and Olivia were able to move the ball around to both the middles and outsides which gave us a chance to be a little diverse in our offense. Hannah Bressler played a great defensive game for us – she was able to move to the deep balls and bring them up. I give Clearfield alot of credit. They kept the ball in play and hustled, (Clearfield Head Coach)Sara (Fye) has done a nice job with the program.”

Leading players for Clearfield included Jordan Puit with 6 service points, Amber Scott also with 6 service points, Lucy Kovalick with 5 service points, Amber Claycomb with 9 assists and Dakota Farmery with 6 kills.

Curwensville also managed to win the junior varsity match after a slow start 13-25, 25-20, 15-6 to even their record at 2-2.

Neither team will have any time to reflect on this rivalry game as both hit the hardwood again on Tuesday.

Clearfield travels to Mountain League opponenet Central Mountain and Curwensville travels to DuBois Central Catholic.
