Punxsutawney-The Clearfield 13 & 14 Teener League All-Stars lost their opening round game in the state tournament Friday afternoon, 9-7, to Area 2 runner-up, Schuylkill East. Clearfield, the Area 6 champions, fell behind 9-2, then saw a valiant comeback fall just short in the seventh inning. Clearfield scored 5 runs in the bottom of the inning and had the bases loaded, but couldn’t push any more runners across the plate.
“We outhit them, but gave away too many runs on errors,” said head coach Sid Lansberry. Leading the way for Clearfield’s 13 hit attack were Logan Puit and Cole Kephart, who each had three hits. Jake Lansberry also had two knocks for Clearfield.
With the loss, Clearfield drops into the loser’s bracket where they will take on Area 4 runner-up Hollidaysburg, who lost 27-17 to Area 5 champion, Mt. Union. The game, which will be played at Miner’s Field in Rossiter, is scheduled to begin at 11:00am.
