COUDERSPORT – Potter/McKean broke open a close game with seven runs in the sixth inning at Coudersport Area Recreation Park Saturday afternoon for a 12-6 win that eliminated the Clearfield Babe Ruth League 15-Year-Old All-Stars from the District 8 Tournament.
Clearfield hung with the tourney hosts by matching three-run rallies in the fourth frame and singletons in the fifth to trail 5-4 before the big outburst.
Derek Hryn drove in three runs with a pair of singles for Clearfield, which out-hit Potter/McKean 11-8.
Jonas Kochan and Devin Jones also had two singles apiece.
The winners took advantage of eight walks, a hit batsman and six Clearfield errors. Only six of their runs were earned.
Matt Kushner was the losing pitcher, working into the sixth with five strikeouts. He walked seven and gave up six hits.
Reliever Devin Jones walked one and hit one and was charged with two runs before Hunter Owens put out the fire.
Owens allowed two hits and one run and then pitched a scoreless seventh. He had two strikeouts.
West End of Williamsport, which dumped Clearfield (0-2) into the elimination bracket Friday, downed Altoona 11-1 in six innings in the morning game to move into the winner’s bracket final against State College Sunday.
