PHILIPSBURG – Philipsburg-Osceola just had too much of everything – pitching, hitting and defense – for the Clearfield Little League 11-and-12 All-Stars in their District 5 Northern Tier winner’s bracket final at Homer Maney Memorial Field Friday evening.
Logan Williamson fired a two-hitter while the hosts hammered 11 hits, six of them for extra bases, and also were impressive on defense, especially in gobbling up sharp ground balls, in their 11-0 victory called after 3-1/2 innings because of the Mercy Rule.
Clearfield will have to return to Stormstown Sunday and repeat their first round win over Tri-County to earn a rematch with P-O Tuesday. Manager Dave Campolong’s team must beat P-O twice to annex the Northern Tier title.
P-O played like a championship team in this one, striking for three runs with four consecutive extra base hits off Brandon Orsich in the first inning.
Williamson got the home team rolling with a line drive homer over the left center fence.
Isaac Knepp doubled into the right field corner, Caleb Belinda tripled to deep right center and Nick Conklin bounced a ground rule double over the fence in center.
P-O came right back with five runs in the second, two on Knepp’s triple to left center. He scored on a single by Conklin, who raced home when Cam Domblisky doubled down the left field line. Josh Bryan started the rally with a single and scored on a hit by Levi Hughes.
In the third, Belinda drilled a three-run triple up the right center alley after Tanner Sinclair and Williamson singled and Knepp walked.
Except for two triples to right by Orsich, Williamson was in command all the way, striking out seven and walking none.
