MILESBURG – The Clearfield Little League 11-and-12 All-Stars advanced to the winner’s bracket final of the District 5 Northern Tier Tournament by riding a 14-hit attack to a 15-5 victory over Milesburg in five innings Monday evening.
The Mercy Rule win means a third consecutive road game for Clearfield, which will play at Philipsburg’s Homer Maney Field Friday at 6 p.m.
Philipsburg-Osceola breezed past Milesburg 19-1 in four innings Monday.
Clearfield (2-0) had six players with two or more hits, No. 9 batter Reese Wilson coming through with three.
Will Myers, Brandon Orsich, Marcus Luzier, Matt Collins and Jake Sorbera had two apiece.
Christian Leigey put Clearfield in front to stay with a two-run single for a 4-2 lead in the second inning.
A three-run home run by Collins and a two-run single by Myers highlighted Clearfield’s six-run fourth that ballooned the margin to 11-2.
Leigey had three RBIs, while Orisch and Sorbera added two each.
Collins pitched into the fourth inning for the win, striking out six and walking four.
Myers limited Milesburg to one hit over the final 1-2/3 innings. He struck out one and walked none.
