Dog Hollow Beats the Rain with Three New Winners

STRONGSTOWN, PA – Dog Hollow Speedway owner Jim Michny rolled the dice Friday night and came up with winning numbers, some how, as rain hit several times, but that didn’t force Michny to throw in the towel.

Three new drivers found victory lane, including Clate Copeman of Greensburg in the Townsend Gas and Oil Super Late Models and Josh Jacoby of Fernwood in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Street Stocks while Joe Moyer of Ashville won his career first Stoystown Auto Wreckers Fastrak Late Model main at the speedway.

Repeat winners included Matt Krause of Houtzdale in the Brush Valley Tire Pure Stocks, John Hayes of Clymer won the Four Cylinder Sidewinders and Bob Pease of Blairsville continued undefeated in the Modified Four Cylinder main.

Billy Dickson and Clate Copeman led the Super Late Models to the start with Dickson leading most of the opening lap before Dan Swartzlander spun in turn two to create a complete restart.

On the restart Dickson and Copeman were running side-by-side much of the first lap, with Copeman taking the lead going into the third turn and Dickson falling to second. John Britsky moved into second on lap three and Dickson was hot on his tail. As rain began to fall, the drivers were still creating dust, so the race went on.

With some drizzle still falling, the race continued with Copeman still in the lead and a fast closing Britsky in second. Dickson and Sammy Stile both fell to the wayside and ended up out for the night on lap 16. They were running third and fifth respectively.

The restart saw Britsky all over Copeman, as Shane McMeans got into the mix and tried to work his way past both leaders, as Britsky and Copeman ran side-by-side, but Copeman had it hooked up for the win as he held off Britsky at the line. Britsky, McMeans, Dwayne Taneyhill and Billy Eash completed the top five. Heat wins went to Copeman and Rick Davis.

The Fastrak Late Models were led to the start by Joe Moyer and Tim Snare Jr. as, like the late models, they were door-to-door for the first lap, but for Moyer, he was beside someone much of the race, as he had Snare to contend with first, then out of fourth place came Transten Stoner who got past Snare, who went off the track to cause a yellow on lap 15. On the restart Stoner was still in hot pursuit of Moyer, as Stoner tried inside and outside every lap, but at the line, it was always Moyer with the advantage, then late in the race Joe Martin came into the picture as he tried to get past Stoner. On the final turn of the final lap, Stoner went high and Moyer held on to win, while Martin was able to get under Stoner for second. At the line the top five were: Moyer, Martin, Stoner, Rich Logan and Brian Lessley. Stoner, Lessley and Mike Laughard split heat wins.

Ray Hickok and Birthday boy Andy Klingensmith filled the Street Stock front row, with Klingensmith taking the lead and setting the pace for the first two laps, then Josh Jacoby worked into the lead on the inside and drove away from the rest of the field. The best race was from second back, as Klingensmith, Hickok, A.J. Flick, Jeff Sweeney and David Rocker all jockeyed for position, with three and four wide racing, but when Kevin Smyers threw the checkered flag it was Jacoby winning over Klingensmith, Hickok, Rocker and Sweeney. Jacoby and Tim Laughard shared heat wins.

Jim Hamilton and Matt Krause led the Pure Stocks to the start with Hamilton taking the lead for the first two laps, before Krause moved into the lead and started to open up an advantage on Hamilton and third place Eric Ager. As they were trying to reel in the leader, 12th place starter Justin Queen was headed to the front. On lap four Adam Pletcher took second from Ager and on lap seven, using lapped traffic to his advantage, Queen was able to move into the second spot.

Queen had lots of real estate between him and Krause but the yellow waved for a spinning Hamilton allowing the field to bunch up. Another quick yellow on lap 11 again regrouped the field with Queen getting another shot at Krause, but Krause had the right set-up as he took the win over Queen, Pletcher, Matt Summers and Ager. Queen and Krause won the heats.

John Hayes and Tim Lamer were on the front row of the Four Cylinder Sidewinder feature, with Hayes taking the lead and never looking back. Hayes had to contend with Mark Wetzel the first half of the race then with Chris Yoder the second half, as they tried to throw everything they had at the leader, but Hayes wasn’t about to be denied, as he took his second win of the season over Yoder, John Costa, Ray Edwards and Sean Fitzpatrick. The heats were cancelled due to time.

Robert Lydic and Mark Maglet led the Modified Four Cylinders to the green with third place starter Chris Hickok taking the lead and setting the early pace. On lap four Bob Pease found his way to the front and brought Tom Pavelko along, but Pavelko didn’t have anything for Pease as Pease won his third straight, making him undefeated so far this year. Pavelko, Maglet, Paul Little and John Lee completed the top five. Again, the heats were cancelled in the interest of time.

The Shawn “Sheetz” McGarvey Top Dog Memorial Shootout was won by John Britsky over Clate Copeman, who spun out while working the second lap, bring the match race to a finish. Prior to Copeman racing Britsky Shane McMeans was to go against him, but he had transmission problems and could not start. Michny paid both McMeans and Copeman second place money.
