HARRISBURG – Attorney General Linda Kelly and Huntingdon County District Attorney George Zanic announced that agents from the Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation (BNI), along with local law enforcement, have charged 30 suspected drug dealers following one of the largest drug raids in Huntingdon County history.
Kelly said the arrests are the result of a 12-month cooperative investigation that focused on street and mid-level drug dealers operating in Huntingdon County.
Over the course of the investigation agents were able to infiltrate the drug culture in Huntingdon County and make a series of controlled purchases of heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine, ecstasy, various prescription medications and marijuana. Investigators also utilized numerous tips from Huntingdon County residents to enhance the investigation.
Narcotics agents, the District Attorney’s Office and local law enforcement agencies combined their resources and manpower to determined many of the suspects sold drugs to their customers on the streets, in parking lots, in bars and in government housing units throughout Huntingdon County.
“Drug abuse is a community-wide problem that requires community-wide solutions,” Kelly said. “These arrests are an example of how cooperative law enforcement can effectively target and arrest local drug dealers.”
Kelly said the arrests are part of an ongoing effort to target local, street-level drug dealers, who work in connection with upper-level dealers and organizations.
The defendants are scheduled to be preliminarily arraigned today before Huntingdon Magisterial District Judge Richard Wilt. The defendants will be prosecuted by Huntingdon County District Attorney George Zanic’s office.
Kelly thanked Huntingdon County District Attorney George Zanic’s office, the members of the Huntingdon County Drug Task Force, the Huntingdon Borough Police Department, the Mount Union Police Department, the Huntingdon County Sheriff’s Office, the Juniata Valley Regional Police Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police for their assistance with the investigation.
