STILE, MARTIN AND QUEEN AMOUNG NEW DOG HOLLOW WINNERS

STRONGSTOWN, PA – The second race of the season was finally completed at Dog Hollow Speedway with four drivers earning their first wins of the season on Ingrams Engine Trophy night, including Sammy Stile of Charleroi in the Townsend Gas and Oil Super Late Models; Joe Martin of Ringgold in the Stoystown Auto Wreckers Fastrak Late Models, Justin Queen of Irvona in the Brush Valley Tire Pure Stocks and Wild Bill Hassenplug of Gallitzin in the Four Cylinder Sidewinders.

Repeat winners includes Nick Goss of Punxsutawney in the Hoosier Tire mid-Atlantic Street Stocks and Bob Pease of Blairsville in the Modified Four Cylinders.

Rick Ament of Vanergrift won the three-quarter late model feature.

Dwayne Taneyhill and Dan Lee led the super late models to the start, but it was Sammy Stile who came from third to make it three wide for the lead off the fourth turn.

Once in the lead, Stile set sail and didn’t look back as he pulled out to about a straight-a-way lead over the second place battle, which was headed between Taneyhill and Lee at first but then Steve Everhart made his presence known as he took third from Clate Copeman on lap 11 and began to work on Taneyhill. Stile went on to get his first win of the season while Taneyhill won the fight with Everhart for second. Jerry Redden was fourth and Dane Laraway was fifth. Billy Dickson and Dan Lee won the heats.

Stile was interviewed in victory lane by former track announcer Jim Ferguson, who noted how good it was to see Stile again.
“I have to dedicate this to a good friend of mine,” Stile said. “Howie (Balis) is still in the hospital, and he has a long road ahead of him. I just ask that everyone keep him in your prayers.”

The Fastrak Late Model feature was anyone’s race from the initial waving of Bob Sullengers green flag. Mike Laughard took the lead at the start from his fourth place starting spot, with young Shane Weaver second and Tim Snare Jr. third. Weaver was trying the inside of Laughard for the lead repeatedly with Snare and now Mike Blose in the hunt for the lead.

On lap seven Joe Martin came from ninth to fourth and he was in the mix for the lead. On lap eight Laughard, Weaver and Blose went three wide off the second turn for the lead, and they were still three wide entering the third turn, as Martin sat fourth watching the race unfold.
The top three bumped and banged with Weaver leading the lap at the line, with Blose in second and Laughard third. Then the caution flew, tightening the field as Weaver led them to the green, Blose was able to take the lead with an inside move off turn two. As Blose was tying to stretch his lead, Martin was now in second and trying to reel in the leader but disaster struck for Blose on lap 15, as a puff of smoke same from the engine and the #5 drifted to a stop on the backstretch. Martin then inherited the lead and held off a fast closing Andrew Satterlee and Tommy Snyder for the win. The official top five were: Martin, Satterlee, Snyer, Weaver and Ken Herman. Heat wins were divided by Martin, Blose and Billy Stile III.

In the Street Stocks, it was Mike Desch taking the initial lead with Rick Dean second and Tyler Hite third. The top three were pulling away and waging their own battle when Hite looked under Desch off the fourth turn on lap six and took the lead. Hite was trying to pull away when a caution flew on lap 11. The restart saw Nick Goss sitting in second and he was able to reel in Hite and used the same line Hite used for the lead, the low side out of turn four. Once out front, Hite battled Goss back, but Goss went on to his second straight win. Hite, Andy Klingensmith, Desch and Jeff Sweeney completed the top five. Heat wins were split between Goss and Ray Hickok.

The Pure Stock feature saw Jeremy Shaffer out run Eric Ager at the start and set sail, pulling out to about a half a straight-a-way lead. As Shaffer was leading, Ager was trying to hold on to second but Justin Queen was persistent and tried numerous times to get past the #13, finally on lap 11, following a lap 10 restart, Queen was able to go under Ager and take second. Little did Queen and Ager know their battle for second would end up being for the win. At the line it was Shaffer crossing under the flag first, with Queen and Ager second and third. But in a post race tech, Shaffer was disqualified and Queen assumed the win. The official top five were: Queen, Ager, Matt Krause, Adam Pletcher and Jim Hamilton. Heat wins went to Queen and Ager.

The Four Cylinder Sidewinders are always a barnburner and this one was no different at 23 of the 25 cars answered the call for the start with Wild Bill Hassenplug taking the lead before John Lamer took the lead on lap five, but he had Hassenplug fighting back and Hassenplug regained the lead on lap 10 and held on for his first win of the season. Lamer, Chris Yoder, Jason Mullen and Mark Wetzel Jr. completed the top five. Heat wins went to Hassenplug, Ray Edwards and Wetzel.
Eighth place Trevor Gombach and tenth place Mark Remah were both disqualified after a post race tech.
Mark Maglet led the opening two laps of the Modified Four Cylinder feature before Bob Pease took the lead and never even left second place sniff his fumes, as he went to get his second straight win. Maglet, Paul Little, Chris Hickok and Jesse Short rounded out the top five. Tom Pavelko won the heat.

A special appearance by the all new three-quarter late models saw Levi Spinnwebber take the lead for the first six laps, before Rick Ament took the lead and eventual win with Spinnwebber in second, Max Wilkinson third, Mike Spinnwebber fourth and David Innes in fifth. Ament also won the heat.
