According to the report, the boys were traveling east on Mount Zion Road, a “gravel-improved dirt roadway.” While negotiating a right-hand curve in the roadway and coming down hill, the St. Marys boy apparently lost control because of excessive speed for the gravel road surface.
The ATV exited the roadway via the northern side where it struck several trees adjacent to it. Both boys impacted the trees and suffered facial injuries. The boys were not wearing any type of safety equipment, police said.
The Ridgway-based state police were assisted at the scene by the Jay Township Volunteer Fire Department, Bennetts Valley and St. Marys Ambulance and the Elk County Coroner.
