BROOKVILLE – Wes McGarry twirled a seven-hit shutout while Derek Danver and Andrew Redden drove in three runs apiece as the Clearfield American Legion Post 6 baseball team breezed past Brookville 12-0 in six innings Wednesday evening.
Manager Sid Lansberry’s Chiefs pounded 11 hits and were aided by 10 walks and a hit batsman in padding their Jefferson County League record to 3-1.
McGarry struck out seven and needed only 82 pitches to register his second win.
The left-hander didn’t issue a walk, and his lone three-ball count came with two outs in the sixth frame.
The Chiefs, 3-4 overall, posted the only runs they needed in the first with a walk, three stolen bases and RBI hits by Redden, McGarry and Shane Harper.
Coleman Kubala’s two-run triple was the key blow as Clearfield extended its lead to 7-0 in the fourth.
Danver tripled for an RBI in the fifth and singled home two teammates in the sixth.
Redden had a trio of run-scoring singles.
Thursday’s road game that was postponed because the Punxsutawney Area High School team will be playing in the PIAA Class AAA Tournament quarterfinals has been rescheduled for Sunday, June 26, at 8 p.m.
Lansberry also announced Clearfield’s June 20 game with Punxsy has been switched to the Bison Sports Complex and one of two games booked at DuBois last Saturday is set for Friday, June 17.
Clearfield goes to Reynoldsville Sunday for a 6 p.m. JCL game.
