Redden, Danver Key Chiefs’ 11-10 Comeback Win

HYDE – The Clearfield Chiefs pulled out an exciting 11-10 Jefferson County Legion League victory over Brookville Sunday evening when Derek Danver singled home one run and Andrew Redden punctuated their fourth comeback with a walk-off, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning at the Bison Sports Complex.

The two veterans had four hits apiece, including solo home runs, and drove in all of the runs as the Chiefs evened their record at 1-1. Redden had seven of the RBIs.

Manager Sid Lansberry’s club had never led, trailing 5-0 after two innings, 6-3 in the fourth, 8-6 after four and 10-8 going to the do-or-die seventh.

Back-to-back homers by Danver and Redden had tied the game for the second time in the sixth.

Brookville reclaimed the lead with two unearned runs off of reliever Tyler Jacobson in the top of seventh with four singles around a Clearfield error.

Ryan Zimmerman was called out to save the win for Zane Hackett, but the Chiefs were not to be denied.

After getting in an 0-2 hole, Steve Miller fouled off several pitches and then beat out an infield hit to trigger the rally. One out later, Jacobson walked and Danver singled to left. Both runners moved up on the throw to the plate to set the stage for Redden’s game-winning looper to right field.

Wes McGarry, who had two hits, started and pitched into the fourth inning for the Chiefs. He struck out five but gave up four walks, 11 hits and six earned runs.

Jacobson worked the last four frames for the win, fanning three and walking two. Brookville got to him for four runs, two earned, on 11 hits.

Big guns for Brookville were Brock Bietz with four hits and three RBIs, Hackett with three hits and four RBIs and Zimmerman with a solo home run and two singles.

The Chiefs will be back in action Monday when Bellefonte visits the Bison Sports Complex for a non-league game at 2 p.m.
