AMESVILLE – The Curwensville Golden Tide baseball team ended a six game losing streak Monday afternoon on the road, defeating Moshannon Valley 11-2 in Moshannon Valley League (MVL) action.
Curwensville had been beaten earlier in May by Mo Valley 11-0 on their home field.
The Tide started strong, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings to bolt out in front 6-0 after two complete innings were in the books.
Mo Valley would push their first run across in the bottom half of the third but the Tide were determined to keep the Black Knights at a distance as they would score two times in the fourth and two more in the sixth to pick up a much needed win.
The two runs the Tide scored in the top half of the sixth inning were compliments of senior shortstop Shane Hoover, who cracked a two run homer. On the day Hoover drove in four runs and scored three.
Freshman Kyle Johns picked up his first career mound victory for the Golden Tide win by going all seven innings, allowing just four hits and striking out five Knights.
Jesse Zorger had two hits for the Tide and Boone McGary knocked in three teammates to pace the Curwensville attack.
Luther Harlow had two hits for Mo Valley.
Tide head coach Denny Johns said afterwards, “It was real nice to get a win after the tough week we had last week. And it was also real nice to see the kids keep battling through hard times and get back on the winning side.”
Curwensville, now 5-10 overall and 2-1 in MVL action, will entertain Elk County Catholic (ECC) at 4:15 pm. ECC beat the Tide earlier this season, 15-5.
