Flanagan Blanks Huntingdon in 13-0 Clearfield Win

HUNTINGDON – The Clearfield Area High School baseball team kept alive its hopes for a .500 season by whitewashing Huntingdon 13-0 in its Mountain League Allegheny Division finale Thursday afternoon.

Trevor Flanagan scattered seven singles in the six-inning shutout and the Bisons compiled 13 hits in their eighth win in 18 games.

“Flanagan pitched really well on two days rest,” Clearfield coach Sid Lansberry said. “He threw 93 pitches in five innings Monday, and he was under 80 this game. It was a good outing.”

The senior right-hander struck out five Bearcats and walked one for his third win in five decisions.

He aided his own cause with two hits, including a two-run single in the first inning.

Christian Lezzer also drove in two runs in the Bisons’ 5-0 start with the first of his two hits.

Tyler Jacobson singled and doubled for RBIs in his first two at-bats to help the Bisons take a 7-0 lead after two innings.

They made it a Mercy Rule victory with six runs in the sixth, with the key hits a two-run single by Andrew Redden and a two-run double by Shane Harper.

Lansberry was happy to see the Bisons make all the plays in the field.

“The last two games we’ve had solid defense,” he said.

Counting a 4-2 record against Nittany Division opponents, Clearfield finished 7-9 in its first year in the Mountain League. The Bisons were 3-7 in the tougher Allegheny Division.

Huntingdon (2-16) is 0-9 with one division game remaining.

The Bisons end the regular season next week with 4:15 p.m. games at Brookville Monday and Bradford Friday.

In the junior varsity game, Christian Flood and Matt Josephson had two hits and three RBIs apiece as Clearfield triumphed 16-3 in five innings. Flood had a triple and a double.

Nate Bumbarger also had two hits, scored three runs and stole three bases, and Christian Stone scored three runs and stole two bases.

Wyatt Westen was the winning pitcher.
