Rams No-Hit Golden Tide 14-1

CURWENSVILLE – The rough week on the diamond for the Golden Tide of Curwensville continued at home on Wednesday as Johnsonburg took command from the start to dump the Tide 14-1.

Two Ram pitchers, Cole Peterson and Mitchell Holmberg, combined for a no-hitter in the five inning game shortened due to the ten-run mercy rule. The pair struck out six Curwensville hitters.

Curwensville, which lost 1-0 at Johnsonburg on April 14 fell to 4-9 on the 2011 season.

Senior Shae Best lost his first game of the year setting his record at 1-1. Best did strike out six Ram batters in his time on the mound.

Head coach Denny Johns talked about both squads afterwards, “Johnsonburg was very aggressive today and they really hit the ball extremely well.”

About his own team Johns said, “We just can’t find our stroke offensively right now. I know it is extremely frustrating for us. The kids are trying their best but we just can’t seem to get anything going at all.”

The Rams, who scored in all five innings, had 13 hits, six bases on balls and benefited from seven Tide errors.

Peterson and Zac Luhr each had four hits with Frank Kocjancic chipping in with a pair of singles.

The Tide return to action on Thursday with a road trip to Ridgway to meet the Elkers in a game that starts at 4 pm. Curwensville knocked off Ridgway the first time the two met on May 5, 9-2.
