CLEARFIELD – At a press conference on Wednesday held by the Clearfield County Fair and Park Board, it was announced this year’s plush animal is Goldie.
Goldie, like the past plush animals, is based on something from the fair or county’s past.
Here’s Goldie’s story:
Autumn Gold lovingly nicknamed “Goldie” was the pony of Jana (Duttry) Davidson. Jana is the former 1999 Clearfield County Fair Queen and the former 2000 Pennsylvania State Fair Queen. Goldie, a 12’2 hand palomino pony mare, was purchased by the Duttry family in 1989, Jana’s first year as a 4-H member.
When Goldie was purchased, she was a teenage pony with very little training and many didn’t believe she would ever learn or master anything beyond trying to buck someone off. However, with a few years of hard work, Jana was able to train her to be an outstanding western pleasure, pleasure driving, and trail pony.
In 1994, Jana & Goldie received the ultimate 4-H horse honor of being named the Pennsylvania State 4-H Champion at the 35th Annual Pennsylvania State 4-H Horse Show held at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. Jana highlights this as her most memorable experience in 4-H and a day she will never forget. Jana credits Goldie for a lot of her success in life, as she learned desire, dedication, and determination can take you far and life!
Goldie is expected be be available for purchase in June from the Clearfield County Fair Web site.
