Lady Tide Drop Season Finale At West Branch 69-42

ALLPORT – The West Branch girls basketball team completed a sweep of the Curwensville Lady Tide on the 2010-11 season with a convincing 69-42 win Wednesday night on the Lady Warriors home court.

West Branch won the first meeting against the Tide on January 21, 44-36. The Lady Warriors have now won two straight and improved to 8-13 on the year while the Lady Tide, under second year head coach Rusty McCracken, finished the year at 4-18.

Curwensville kept the game close as they were down by just five points at the half, 32-27. The second sixteen minutes was, however, a different tune as West Branch put the game away by outscoring their visitors, 37-15.

Roni Crowell made the most of her seven field goals for the Warriors as they all came from beyond the arc, making her the game’s high scorer with 23 points.

McCracken spoke about the loss afterwards, “We battled very hard in the first half, but every time we came to within a couple of points Crowell would hit a big three pointer for them. Again, I thought we played really well in the first half but we let things get away from us there in the second half. We just couldn’t maintain how we started the game.”

Bethany Kopchick dropped in 16 points while Melesha Ahlberg added 10 to help Crowell and the Lady Warrior offense. West Branch had a total of eight treys against the Lady Tide.

Curwensville was paced on offense by Savannah Strickland who had 15, including three three-pointers. Taylor Bumbarger scored nine.

Playing their final game for the Lady Tide was Taylor Bumbarger, Paige McCracken, Brittany Carter, Courtney Bachelier and Katie Wriglesworth. Kate Norris, another Tide senior, has been out with an illness.

McCracken had some final comments for his squad, “ We have to think of it as a positive season. We won more games this year than last year’s team. Everyone who played this year on varsity contributed offensively.” Then McCracken added, “I am proud of the way we handled ourselves the entire season. We played hard no matter what the score was and we always held our heads high.”

In the junior varsity game the Lady Warriors easily defeated the Lady Tide by a score of 53-16. Cheyenne Pentz and Tiffany Carter each had five points for Curwensville.
