With the win the Lady Tide improve to 4-14 on the 2010-11 campaign under second year head coach Rusty McCracken.
The Tide utilized a strong second quarter to pull in front of Sheffield 22-18 at the half by winning the second frame 13-8.
Both squads struggled with their offenses in the third period with Sheffield managing to outscore their visitors 5-4 to trail by three, 26-23 going into the final period.
Curwensville came back in the fourth period to find some offense to put the win in the books. The Lady Tide took the last eight minutes 11-9.
Taylor Bumbarger lead the Tide with 12 points while Savannah Strickland and Rebecca Johnson each tallied six.
The Lady Wolverines were paced by Kristie Steffan who lead all scorers with 13 and Juli Ely with seven.
McCracken liked the total team effort in the win, “I thought we played well as a team. Seven of the nine people we played scored for us which gave us some balance on offense. That was due in part to us finding each other on the offensive end.”
A key factor in the battle was the edge the Lady Tide had in rebounds, which was addressed by McCracken, “We rebounded really well tonight. It seemed that everyone was involved on the boards which made a big difference in the outcome of the game.”
In junior varsity action Sheffield beat the Lady Tide by a score of 35-20.
Curwensville is back in action Wednesday when they travel to Houtzdale to play the Damsels of Moshannon Valley in a Moshannon Valley League game. Curwensville beat Mo Valley in early December 35-28. The JV contest will start at 6 pm with the varsity to immediately follow.
