Bison Wrestlers Place Four at Escape the Rock Tourney, Team Finishes Tied for 12th

New Holland — The Clearfield Bison wrestling team finished in a 12th place tie with Norristown Area after accumulating 103 points in the 31-team Escape the Rock tournament held at Council Rock South High School. Bethlehem Catholic took home the coveted team title with 172 points despite not crowning any individual champions.

The Bisons were able to bring home four medalists over the course of the two-day tourney.

Senior 103 pounder Shane Peters (14-2) ran off four wins in the consy bracket after losing to Bensalem’s Tommy Stokes 14-10 in the quarterfinals. Peters avenged his lone loss in the tourney by beating Stokes 5-3 in sudden victory in the third place match.

Clearfield’s lone semifinalist, sophomore Christian Stone at 112 pounds, was knocked into the consies by returning state champion Zain Retherford of Line Mountain 17-0 in 4:35. Stone (14-2) then picked up two narrow victories to place third.

Senior 171-pounder Derek Danver, who picked up his 100th career win recently, also picked up four wins in the consy bracket, but was also saddled with two more losses to end up in sixth place. Danver (16-4) took over the team lead in victories over the weekend. Danver’s next victory, his 107th, will tie him for fifth with Tim Taylor on Clearfield’s all-time win list.

Cliff Hill at 215 also lost in the quarterfinals then picked up four consy wins for his third place medal. Hill (11-2) recorded two pins, then a forfeit and an injury default for his final placement.

Clearfield (3-1) will be back in action when they travel to regional rival Philipsburg-Osceola on Thursday night.
