Myers’ Double-Double Sparks Bisons in 48-45 Overtime Win

MILL HALL – Clearfield battled back from a nine-point halftime deficit to force overtime on a late field goal by Robbie Myers and then led all the way in the extra period for a 48-45 victory in Mountain League Allegheny Division action Friday night.

Myers poured in a career-high 22 points and also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds as the Bisons made it back-to-back wins after an 0-6 start.

Jack Mellgard chipped in 10 points.

In overtime, Christian Lezzer got Clearfield on the board first and Myers followed with a free throw.

After Justin Allen countered with a deuce for the Wildcats (3-5), Mellgard bracketed another Myers foul shot with a field goal and two free throws to make it 47-41.

Central Mountain didn’t get a chance to tie, not getting close until Cameron Blazina did hit a three-pointer with five seconds left.

Clearfield fell behind 25-16 at intermission primarily because of 16 turnovers.

The Bisons protected the ball much better during their comeback, finishing with 22 turnovers.

They got to within two points in the third quarter, thanks to eight points by Myers, before the Wildcats responded to take a 35-28 lead into the fourth period.

The Bisons made it a one-point game on an old-fashioned three-pointer by Myers and a shot from behind the arc by Redden.

Later, a Curtis Frye field goal and a Myers foul shot again brought Clearfield to within one, 38-37.

The Wildcats made only 12 of 32 free throws and a late miss kept the door open for the Bisons, who capitalized on Myers’ equalizer.

Redden and Lezzer each had seven rebounds for Clearfield.

Richie LaSalle topped Central Mountain with 12 points, and Cole Renninger added 10.

Both teams are 2-3 in the league.

The Bisons will face three ML-Nittany Division teams next week, hosting Indian Valley Monday and Lewistown Friday around a trip to Bellefonte Wednesday.
