Golden Tide Defeats Kane 56-48 For Second Win

CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville Golden Tide had three players hit for double figures on their home court Tuesday night as they picked up win number two on the year in defeating visiting Kane, 56-48.

Matt Wassil, Curwensville head coach, was thrilled with the overall team play, “I thought that we shared the ball very, very well tonight, something we haven’t done so far this year. It was a big factor to our winning this game.”

Shelby McGary and Boone McGary each had 12 points for the Tide in the win while Kyle Barrett dropped in 10. All three are senior starters for Curwensville.

The Tide took an early 12-8 lead after the first eight minutes were in the books and then stretched the margin to 31-21 at the half as they outscored the Wolves in the second stanza 19-13. Shelby McGary had seven in the second quarter and nine overall by halftime to help Curwensville to the 10-point lead at the break.

Barrett gave the Tide their biggest lead up to that point at the 5:45 mark of the third quarter with a short jumper putting Curwensville out in front 35-23.

The contest would go back and forth for the remainder of the second half with the Tide never up by less than seven points.

Another bucket by Barrett with 7:50 remaining in the battle gave Curwensville it’s largest lead of the game at 43-29.

Logan Depto, a senior guard for Kane, kept the Wolves in the contest most of the time as he had a game high 23 points with nine coming in the final frame where he connected on two three pointers.

Wassil summed up the evening by saying, “I was also very pleased with how our guys were running the court tonight. They went to the correct spots on the court the majority of the time that helps move the defense around which in turn gave us some good looks at the basket.”

About the win the Tide leader added, “We needed a confidence builder to start the new year and the kids came out and played very well.”

Curwensville won the junior varsity game with a come from behind victory over Kane 43-42 in the last 22 seconds.
