Police Probe for Johnstown Shooting Suspect in Clearfield Area

CLEARFIELD – An 18-year-old Johnstown man who has been identified as a suspect in a fatal shooting there last Wednesday may be in the Clearfield area, the Johnstown Police Department said today.

Police have issued a warrant on homicide charges for Dominic Benjamin Berry, 18, of Johnstown. Both the Clearfield and Johnstown Police Departments received tips last evening that Berry is possibly in the Clearfield area, police said.

Johnstown Police described the suspect as a light-skinned African American male, standing approximately 5 feet, 7 inches tall with a thin build. While they only have a juvenile photograph of Berry, police were unable to release it to the press.

According to GantDaily News Partner WJAC-TV, Berry was identified as a suspect in the shooting death of Desean Alston, 19, after police reviewed surveillance video from the parking lot of Solomon Homes, the housing complex where the suspect reportedly lives.  A witness to the killing also came forward and identified Berry as the gunman, police said.

Police said the suspect reportedly fired shots around 11 p.m. last Wednesday, striking Alston multiple times. The victim was then dumped in the lobby area of Memorial Medical Center. The person who left the victim fled in a burgundy Ford Explorer, and hospital employees notified police.  Alston died at the hospital.

Berry, who has a felony conviction in the state of Ohio, faces charges of criminal homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and related firearms violations.  Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Berry is asked to contact the Clearfield Borough Police Department at 814-765-7819 or the Johnstown Police Department at 1-800-281-1680
