Bisons Lose 61-38 to Somerset in Tourney Opener

PURCHASE LINE – Clearfield will not leave the 32nd annual Purchase Line Lions Club Holiday Basketball Tournament with another championship trophy Tuesday night.
 
The Bisons were denied a chance to extend their string of titles to eight when Somerset raced to a 36-13 halftime lead en route to a 61-38 in the tourney opener Monday evening.
 
Purchase Line (5-2) followed up with a 56-44 win over backyard rival Harmony (4-2) to join Somerset (2-5) in the finals.
 
Clearfield, winless after five games, will play Harmony in the consolation game at six o’clock.
 
Senior guard Jack Mellgard paced coach Forrest Campman’s Bisons with a season-high 13 points, including his first three 3-pointers.
 
Robbie Myers chipped in 10 points, his fourth game in double figures.
 
Big guns for the Golden Eagles were Justin Harshbarger with 17 points and Brent Barron with 12. Harshbarger had three of Somerset’s six treys.
