WILLIAMSPORT — The Clearfield Bison wrestling team heads to Williamsport for the annual Top Hat tourney today and Saturday.
The Bisons will look to improve on their fourth place finish from last year, but the task will be difficult in the 17-team field. Last year’s runner-up team Schuykill Valley will be back, as will other top teams BEA and Central Mountain. Penfield (NY) is also entering a strong team and will be in the hunt.
Earning a top seed is 103 pound senior Shane Peters, who will attempt to climb one step up the podium from last year’s runner-up finish.
Sophomore 112-pounder Christian Stone and senior 171-pounder Derek Danver received number two seeds. Stone placed fourth in 2009, while Danver was sixth.
Nolan Barger, a sophomore 130-pounder, received a three seed, the same as his placing last year.
Receiving sixth seeds are seniors Max VonGunden at 140 and Andrew Hill at 145. Hill placed eighth last year.
Wrestling Friday begins at 5:00 p.m.
