CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Pharmacy & Gift Shoppe received the Golden Broom Award for the month of September.

The Golden Broom Award is a peer-to-peer summer program that is initiated by the design committee of the Clearfield Revitalization Corporation, (CRC) to promote downtown storefront cleanliness.

Each month, the broom is passed from business to business in the Main Street District, with the winner of the previous month’s award in charge of passing it onto the next month’s winner.

Last month, Jim’s Sports Center won the award for August and is now passing September’s award to Clearfield Pharmacy.

Donna Malloy of Jim’s Sports Center selected Clearfield Pharmacy for September because its exterior is well-kept, organized and clean. As a corner store, it is also very important to keep a tidy facade since both pedestrians and traffic have more visibility from Third and Market Streets.

Darla Smay of the Clearfield Pharmacy was very excited to receive the award and joked, “I’ve waited all summer” for the Golden Broom Award.  She expressed how happy she was to be recognized for her neat storefront, since keeping it clean is a daily responsibility to the business.

The Clearfield Pharmacy & Gift Shoppe will be passing the broom on in October, which will be the last month of the Golden Broom Award until next spring.

Smay stated that she will be keeping her eye out for those who sweep the fall leaves off their sidewalks, and those who keep their fall decorations neat and organized.

The CRC is decorating the downtown with cornstalks and it is important for businesses to incorporate the season into their storefronts as well.
