The Clearfield boy’s and girl’s golf teams competed in separate matches on Tuesday with the boys traveling to Sinking Valley Golf Course and the girls going to the Philipsburg Elks course.
Unfortunately, the results were the same as both teams were swept in their respective matches.
The boys (2-7 overall) lost to Central 367-386 and to Tyrone for the second time this year 334-386. Tyrone’s Jimmy Ferguson was the overall medalist with his 77, while Clearfield was led by John Gaylor’s 91.
Head coach Chad Gearhart said that Sinking Valley, “…played very tough, due to the hard and fast greens.”
The girl’s team, competing against five other schools, were led by Dayna Hedges and Melinda Owens who each shot a 57. Overall girl’s medalist was a tie between Mo Witters of Philipsbug-Osceola and Bellefonte’s Alyssa Sinclair with a 45.
Team Scores: Bellefonte – 199, Hollidaysburg – 200, Philipsburg – 202, State College – 205, Clearfield – 232, Penns Valley – non-scoring team.
Coach Gearhart was encouraged by the girl’s team and said, “The girls played very well today. As a team they improved alot over last week, and they are becoming more comfortable with competetion golf.”
The boys will be back in action on September 22 when they travel to a tournament in DuBois.
