Siegel Wins ADAU National Powerlifting Title

PHILADELPHIA — The Anti-Drug Athletes United (ADAU) held their powerlifting and single-lift National Championships this past weekend in Fort Washington, PA. Around 100 competitors from seven states attended the 11th annual event.

 
Al Siegel from Clearfield raised the squat record to 204 pounds, the deadlift record to 314 pounds and the total record to 661 pounds in the 242-pound 70 to 74 year old class.  His total included a 143 pound bench press.  This was Al’s 24th National Masters Powerlifting title, with his first title coming in 1983.
 
Al, an administrator, referee and meet director, as well as a lifter, was also recognized as The Member of the Decade in the ADAU for his participation and service to the organization for the past ten years.
 
Thomas “Bugs” Bayer of Rockton, also attended this championship and won his National title in the 198 pound 65 to 69 year old class.  Bugs, like Al, was successful in breaking the squat, deadlift and total records in his class while winning his 12th National title.
 
Bugs had a record squat of 479 pounds and a deadlift of 507 pounds, along with a 192 pound bench press, in getting his 1179 pound record total.
 
Both lifters are members of the Downtown Weightlifting Club (DWC) Powerlifting team which is located in Clearfield.  The DWC team earned second place, mixed team honors at this championship.
