PCCD to Present Award to Indiana County Sheriff

HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency Executive Director Michael Kane will present the 2010 Crime Prevention Office of the Sheriff Award to Indiana County Sheriff Robert Fyock on July 30.

Fyock will receive the award at approximately 7:30 p.m. during the Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Association Convention at the Inn at Chester Springs, 815 North Pottstown Pike, Exton, Chester County.

The award, a joint endeavor of PCCD and the Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Association, is given annually to a county sheriff who has demonstrated a strong commitment to crime prevention and crime reduction efforts.

Fyock, who has served as sheriff since 2004, has supported a variety of community-based crime prevention efforts, including the “Deputy Phil” and “Stranger Danger” programs for elementary-school aged children and drug abuse prevention programs for older youth and their parents.

Fyock established a special bicycle unit within the Indiana County Sheriff’s department to assist other law enforcement and crime prevention operations throughout the county.  His office also works with the domestic violence, elder abuse and suicide task forces.

PCCD is the commonwealth’s lead agency for criminal justice policy issues and is committed to providing essential support service to law enforcement agencies, responding to and supporting victims of crime and strengthening communities.
