Unbeaten DuBois Downs Clearfield 8-3 to Stay Atop JCL

HYDE – Undefeated DuBois tightened its grip on the Jefferson County Legion League lead by turning back second place Clearfield 8-3 Friday evening at the Bison Sports Complex.

The Post 17 team collected 15 hits, with Brady Bish’s double the lone extra base blow, in halting the Post 6 Chiefs’ winning streak at five games.

DuBois is 8-0, while Clearfield slipped to 7-2 in the JCL and 8-2 for the season.

Manager Sid Lansberry’s Chiefs led 2-1 after two innings, thanks to Chad Zurat’s run-scoring single off starter Nate Sabados in the first and Jarrett Fulmer’s sacrifice fly off reliever Eric Liddle in the second.

However, Liddle shut out the Chiefs over the next four innings to pick up the win. Aided by a pair of doubleplays, he ended his five-inning stint allowing just the one run.

The Chiefs got to Liddle for only two hits. He struck out two, walked three and hit two.

Brady Bish closed it out in the seventh, surrendering an unearned run when Kyle Timchak doubled inside third base, headed for third on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error.

DuBois went in front 4-2 in the third inning on Bish’s RBI-double to deep left center and run-scoring singles by Sean Sleigh and Josh Means, both sharp grounders through the left side.

Loser Derrick Snyder, the first of three Chiefs making their first appearances on the mound, should have departed after four innings in a 2-2 tie. Two of Clearfield’s four errors set up a pair of DuBois runs.

Another miscue cost reliever Jordan Lancaster two runs with two outs in the fifth. Shortstop Fulmer was able to knock down bouncers by Sleigh and Nate Liddle but had no play, and Tyler Miles followed with a hard-hit single in the hole.

After a walk, Means’ liner to left center and Nate Liddle’s single into left loaded the bases in the seventh, Ronny Ogden got the call from Lansberry.

A groundout by Miles and a single by Jordan LaBue drove in the final DuBois runs before the Clearfield infield turned its second DP in as many innings.

The Chiefs will play two Indiana County League teams at Marion Center Saturday. The inter-league game times are 3 p.m. against Young Township and 6 against the host club.

Clearfield goes to Brookville Monday for its next JCL game.
