CLEARFIELD – The Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library splashed into summer reading with the best kickoff event in recent years. Children enjoyed carnival games and activities and registered for several great prizes. With the summer reading program officially started, children will have the opportunity to participate in many more exciting activities.
On June 21 at 6:30 p.m., Shaw Public Library will host its first Family Fun Night of the summer. Performer Gene Allen is scheduled to entertain children and their families with his Make a Splash! Read show. Allen’s presentation encourages the children to explore the wonderful world of books, libraries, and reading. The library director, Paula Marshall, is excited to have Gene Allen make a return visit to Shaw Public Library. “Gene Allen always provides the audience with an entertaining show,” Marshall said. “We are delighted he chose to bring his Make a Splash! Read show to our library this year.” All families are encouraged to attend.
The first week of the summer reading program is entitled “Water Crafts.” Children of all ages will enjoy a variety of crafts related to the Make a Splash @ Your Library theme.
The Read-to-Me program will be held on June 22 at 10:30 a.m. Children ages birth through completion of kindergarten are invited to “Decorate Your Space” by decorating a doorknob hanger with craft pieces.
On June 23 at 10:30 a.m., participants in the Read-to-Me, School Age A, and School Age B programs will work on “Keeping Cool.” Children can fan away the summer heat with a fun craft.
Children enrolled in the School Age A and School Age B program are encouraged to attend “The Spinning Craft” on June 24 at 10:30 a.m. Participants will decorate a paper pinwheel to place in their garden at home. The School Age A program is open to children who have completed grades 1 through 3 and children who have recently completed grades 4 through 6 will enroll in the School Age B program.
