BROOKVILLE – The Clearfield Lady Bison softball squad evened their 2010 season record Wednesday afternoon with a road win at Brookville by beating the Lady Raiders 5-0 behind the four hit shutout pitching of Heather Picard.

Clearfield, who defeated Brookville earlier in the season 10-2, now has a .500 record at 8-8.

B. J. Bowman paced the Lady Bison offense going 3 for 4 at the plate with a home run and two RBI’s. Bowman smacked a one out, two run homer over the left centerfield fence in the top half of the seventh inning. It was her third home run against the Lady Raiders this year as she belted two dingers the first time the two battled on April 28.

Clearfield head coach Bob Dixon spoke about the blast by Bowman, “The home run by B. J. (Bowman) was one of the highest I have ever seen. It was a real shot well beyond the left centerfield fence.”

Picard did her part in scattering just four singles by Brookville while walking only one. The shutout gave Picard an 8-5 mark on the 2010 campaign for Clearfield.

Clearfield broke open a scoreless battle with one run in the top half of the fourth inning as Janell Zalno’s bunt was mishandled allowing the Lady Bison leftfielder to reach first base.

Bowman followed with a single moving Zalno to third. Zalno would later score on another single by Suzie Colesar staking Clearfield to a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Bisons would stretch their margin to 3-0 with two runs in the top of the sixth frame.

Bowman singled to left field and would move to third on a two base error on the play where the Clearfield center fielder would then score on a single by Mikayla Ebeling.

Tristan Lewis followed with another single to put runners on first and second for Clearfield.

Then it was Mia Keener getting into the act by singling to right centerfield to drive home Ebeling with the second run of the inning for the Lady Bisons.

Dixon liked what he saw in the victory, “We really hit the ball well and we hit it hard. Our defense played it’s best defensive game of the year. It was just an overall total team effort.”
