Buster’s Wins Burgettstown Tourney

BURGETTSTOWN — The Buster’s fastpitch softball team got their 2010 campaign off to a fast start by going 4-0 to win the Burgettstown tournament.

After going 3-0 in pool play, Buster’s made short work of Scottdale in the finals with a 4-inning Mercy Rule victory 14-1. Chris Peacock led Buster’s with a home run and double among his three hits and four RBIs. Steve Terry singled four times to help Jeff Tomb pick up the win from the pitcher’s circle.

On their way to the finals Buster’s beat the New York Express 9-8, New Martinsville 5-1, and Westerville (OH) 9-2 in five innings.

Tomb also picked up the win against the Express in the opening game of the tourney. Brent Thomas carried the big stick in that game with two doubles and a single.

In the 5-1 win over New Martinsville in the second game Bill Kozlovac spun a three-hitter and gave up no earned runs. Head coach Brian Barr led the way offensively with two doubles.

Game three against Westerville (OH) ended early 9-2 due to the 7-run Mercy Rule used for tournament play. Kozlovac again picked up the win while Peacock and Terry led the squad into the finals with three hits each.

Buster’s will return to action on May 29 and 30 when they travel to Elkland, NY for the “Molly Memorial”.

Interested teams teams are still being accepted into the Buster’s Tournament in Clearfield on June 11-13.
