Tuesday afternoon the Golden Tide took the Kane Wolves to the wood shed in an 11-1 drubbing of the northern visitors in a game that was called in the bottom of the sixth inning due to the ten run rule. On Monday night the Tide handled East Forest 19-1 in another shortened game.
Coach Denny Johns of Curwensville, now 5-1 on the season, talked about defense and hitting after the win, “Defensively, we continue to make plays and improve each and every game. And our hitting is still going very well as we continue swinging the hot bat from a lot of guys.”
After a scoreless first inning Curwensville broke through with six runs in the bottom of the second inning to begin pulling away from the Wolves.
In the second for Curwensville Brett Sutika led off with a single and then scored on a RBI double by Shane Hoover.
With one out Tide catcher Jonathan Michaels smacked a double putting runners on second and third. Boone McGary brought home Hoover and Michaels with a single making it 3-0 Tide.
Jed Greslick drew a two out walk for Curwensville with Wes McGarry following with a double driving in McGary and Greslick.
Sam Gardner finished the second inning scoring by hitting a single that scored McGarry to make it 6-0 after two innings.
Kane would score it’s lone run of the contest in the top half of the third stanza while the Tide added a single tally in the bottom of the fourth to up their margin to 7-1 after four.
Curwensville decided to end the afternoon for Kane by scoring four more times in the bottom of the sixth inning to bring on the ten run rule.
Freshman Hunter McCracken started the sixth with a double for the Tide and moved to third on a single by Greslick.
McGarry’s sacrifice fly scored McCracken with Greslick coming home on a Gardner single.
With two outs Alex Holland walked putting Tide runners on first and second. Pinch hitter Jesse Zorger stroked a single driving in Gardner.
Eric Little, also pinch hitting, picked up a walk to load the bases for Curwensville and when McGary walked it brought home Holland with the eleventh run of the day for the Tide which ended the battle at 11-1.
McGarry picked up his third win of the year as he went the distance and Johns liked what he saw in his senior hurler, “Wes (McGarry) threw very well. He threw strikes and stayed in the strike zone all afternoon.”
Offensively the Tide had Sutika with three hits while Gardner and McGary drove in three runs apiece.
The Golden Tide will play Moshannon Valley League rival Glendale at home Thursday starting at 4:15 pm.
