Golden Tide Earn Fourth Win, Blast East Forest 19-1

MARIENVILLE – The long journey to Marienville to battle East Forest proved to be an offensive outburst for the Curwensville baseball team as they trounced the Bears 19-1.

The Golden Tide got off the bus swinging and never stopped until the ten run rule was enforced after five innings taking the Tide to 4-1 on the year as freshman Hunter McCracken went the distance for the win, his first.

Curwensville wasted little, if any, time in putting the game away early, scoring eight runs in the first inning and five more in the second.

East Forest scored their lone run in the bottom of the second with a home run by first baseman Raymond Gregg and after two frames it was 13-1 Tide.

Warm up the bus please!

The Tide would tally two more in the fourth and four in the fifth to complete the scoring festival.

McCracken and Jed Greslick hit back to back homers in the 5th inning as McCracken unloaded a three run blast to be followed by a solo smack by Greslick.

Greslick, Wes McGarry, McCracken and Sam Gardner all had three RBI’s for the Golden Tide with McGarry and Gardner each hitting a triple.

Leading the way for the Tide in their fifteen hit barrage was Greslick with three hits while McGarry, Gardner, Boone McGary and McCracken each had two.

As mentioned, McCracken went all five innings on the mound for Curwensville giving up just two hits while striking out 10 and Curwensville head coach Denny Johns liked what he saw in his freshman pitcher, “For his first varsity outing on the mound I thought Hunter (McCracken) threw extremely well.”

As for the offensive explosion Johns stated, “This (Curwensville) team continues to hit with authority. We hit the ball up and down the line-up very well today.”

The Golden Tide junior varsity also came home with a win in beating the young Bears 8-1.

The Tide play at home on Wednesday at 4:15 pm when they go up against the Wolves of Kane.
