Area Wrestlers Set to Compete at PJW States

WILKES-BARRE — Several area youth wrestlers will head to the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Friday to compete in the PA Junior Wrestling (PJW) state championships.

Placing first or second at the Area V championships this past Saturday at Cameron County qualified the wrestlers for the state meet.

Qualifying from Clearfield by winning Area V championships were Luke McGonigal in the 9-10 year old 80 pound weight class, Jake Lancaster in the 13-14 87 pound class, Christian Stone in the 13-14 107 pound class, and Nolan Barger in the 13-14 132 pound class.

Runners-up from Clearfield that also qualified were 9-10 year old Jaret McCracken in the 95 pound weight class and Dan Carney in the 13-14 187 pound class.

Curwensville will be sending three wrestlers to Wilkes-Barre, all as Area V runners-up. They are Zachary Holland in the 8 and under age group at 50 pounds, Shae Bloom in the 11-12’s at 75 pounds, and also in the 11-12 age group, Sam Bressler at 80 pounds.

Wrestling will begin Friday and end on Saturday after the ‘Parade of Champions’, which is scheduled for 4:30 PM.

The 2011 PJW state championships are also scheduled for the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre.
