CLEARFIELD – On Feb. 19 Clearfield Area High School showed its pride by wearing bisons gear to school.
That’s right– “Bisons”.
Currently, Clearfield Area High School, with the help of WTAJ-10’s sportscaster Mike Mueller, is in the works of trying to get the word “bisons” into Webster’s Dictionary. The students in Mrs. Tiffany Warlow’s English IV advanced placement classes and Mueller were the founders of the project and so far it has been a huge success.
T-shirts made by Jim’s Sports Center of Clearfield sporting a “bisons” mock dictionary entry, created by Baillie Davis, along with collecting newspaper articles with the word “bisons” used, contacting other schools and institutions across the United States who have “bisons” pride, creating a Facebook page (currently with over 900 supporters), and Mueller’s interview with the senior editor of Webster’s are part of this effort.
With the help of WTAJ-10, the cause will become a live news broadcast on Feb. 22 at the high school boys basketball game in Clearfield. Students and fans are encouraged to wear their “bisons” T-shirts to the game, or wear any other “bisons” attire and make signs to not only show “bisons” pride, but that indeed “bisons” is a commonly used word!
Over 600 t-shirts have already been sold and will be available for order at Monday night’s game. The T-shirts are $6.00, and all proceeds benefit the Haiti Relief Fund. The group thanks all who have participated in this endeavor.
