JOHNSONBURG – The Curwensville girls basketball team had more than a miserable weather related trip to Johnsonburg on Friday night. The Lady Tide were no match for Johnsonburg on the Ramettes home court, losing 47-26.
Curwensville had won it’s only game of the season against Johnsonburg, 38-34, at Curwensville, on January 12th of this year. But not this time around.
With a smothering defense employed by the Ramettes throughout the contest they won every period against the Lady Tide avenging that earlier defeat to Curwensville.
A bright spot for the Lady Tide was Taylor Bumbarger who paced Curwensville in scoring with eleven points. Bumbarger had three treys on the night and head coach Rusty McCracken was very happy for his junior forward, saying “It was very nice to see Taylor (Bumbarger) come out of her slump. She’s worked hard and it paid off tonight.”
The Tide could only muster ten first half points including just two in the first period as Johnsonburg raced out to a 23-10 halftime edge. The Ramettes scored 17 in the second eight minutes, their best quarter of the snowy night.
McCracken then mentioned, “Johnsonburg played a very strong defensive game and kept up the pressure all night long.”
On the night the Ramettes went to the charity stripe 31 times, making 16.
Tess Bloom backed up Bumbarger on the offensive side for Curwensville scoring ten of her own.
Johnsonburg saw junior forward Justis Myers pour in twenty with freshman Rhianon Fowler dumping in 13 to leads the Ramettes attack.
In junior varsity action Johnsonburg topped the Lady Tide 33-16.
The Lady Tide (1-15) are home against Sheffield on Tuesday for their next hardwood outing. The JV game will begin at 6 pm with the varsity to immediately follow.
